Clean Beauty by Laurisa Product Review: Colorganics Hemp Originals Lip Tint

I can’t leave my house without a little lip color.  It’s been a “problem” since I was allowed to wear makeup and I would insist on sprucing my lips up with a pop of color just to get the mail…and we lived in the country with very few people around!

So yes- I love lip stick, lip tints, gloss- it makes my colored lips smile.

Seeing as I’ve been a lip stick junkie for so long, I was very shocked when I learned of the not-so-pretty ingredients that are typically in lip color.

Curious to know what’s in your favorite lipstick or gloss?

A very common ingredient is methylparaben which is a preservative used widely in beauty products in the U.S.  I want to point out that the European Union has banned this ingredient because it has been linked to cancer and can disrupt the endocrine system- which messes with our hormones in a negative way.

Then there is retinyl palmitate which is a form of synthetic vitamin A that can be toxic to pregnant women.  There are links to cancer again and reproductive effects with this one.

I’ve previously mentioned that we absorb about 60% of whatever we put on our skin in regards to potentially dangerous chemicals and toxins.  But I’m going to take a wild guess that we probably ingest about 100% of what we’re putting on our lips.  That’s a 100% exposure to these toxins.

If you’re going natural with your cosmetics, your lipsticks are a great place to start- and there are a lot of amazing clean options out there now!

My absolute favorite is a super moisturizing lip tint by Colorganics.  Your lips will be beautifully tinted by natural pigment and shining with organic castor oil and organic hemp seed oil.  It gives just the right amount of color for every day wear.  Plus they have lipsticks if you want a richer look.

I also love the company’s philosophy of “consciously connecting the world and beauty”.  How beautiful!

My favorite shades are Earth which is very similar to Clinique’s famous black honey shade and I wear Berry when I want a sweeter pinkish pop.  My lips never dry out, the color lasts and I feel perfectly comfortable if my color goes down with my kale salad.

If you’re curious what is in your beauty products, plug them into the Environmental Working Group’s Skin Deep cosmetics data base which is a wonderful resource educating us to be conscious consumers.
