Happy Earth Day! 

Spring is nature’s New Year which lends to cleansing foods for a refreshed you.

Introducing bitter, astringent, spicy and pungent greens that are in abundance right now, helps us naturally detox any excess fats and proteins from our bodies.  Dark leafy greens like kale, baby swiss chard, turnip or dandelion greens act as a clean-up crew for lurking toxins.  The chlorophyll in greens oxygenates and alkalizes the blood leading to less inflammation and glowing skin.

The lemon juice detoxifies the liver and helps convert toxins into water-soluble form that can be easily eliminated from the body.

Sprouts are amazing as they pack a strong nutrient punch and increase energy.

The bit of spice from ginger, cinnamon and cayenne improves circulation (which contributes to a glow) and aids in moving toxins out of the digestive tract.  This smoothie is a little more intense in taste than usual, but you’ll feel the cleansing effects instantly!

I’ll be making this my morning smoothie for the next couple of weeks to ensure a thorough clean-up!

Earth Day Greens Smoothie Recipe:

Fill blender with…

  • 8 oz. chilled Detox Tea or filtered water
  • handful curly kale
  • handful baby swiss chard or turnip greens
  • ½ handful of spicy sprouts
  • 1 pear (cored & sliced)
  • juice from ½ lemon
  • 1 tsp bee pollen
  • 1 tsp local raw honey
  • ¼ avocado
  • ½” piece of fresh ginger
  • ¼ tsp cinnamon
  • dash of cayenne
  • a few ice cubes
