Kale_ImageA+ Kale Smoothie

Beauty Ingredient: Kale (curly)

This leafy green veggie is the top of the crop when it comes to beauty foods!  Kale is full of antioxidants that fight skin-damaging free radicals.  It is a major source of vitamin A which is used in many topical prescriptions to boost skin beauty.  Vitamin A is amazing because it changes the structure of the skin and actually increases collagen.  This keeps your skin strong, firm and wrinkle-free!  I recommend eating kale every day to maintain a youthful and glowing complexion.  And curly kale is especially delicious in smoothies.

Fill blender with…

  • 8 oz. unsweetened vanilla hemp milk
  • 3-4 handfuls organic curly kale

Blend ingredients to break down greens…then add

  • 1 small frozen banana
  • 1 tbsp organic raw almond butter (peanut butter works too!)
  • 1 tsp maca
  • 1 tsp chia seeds
  • 1 tbsp unsweetened coconut flakes

Blend ingredients until smooth & enjoy

Pomegranate_Image

Perfectly Pomegranate Smoothie

Beauty Ingredient:  Pomegranate

One of the most popular fruits for health and beauty is the wondrous pomegranate.  Popping these antioxidant-filled juicy seeds into a smoothie will keep the skin very pretty.  Environmental factors and every day stress cause the release of free radicals in the body that harm the health of the skin.  Antioxidants fight those unwanted free radicals therefore preventing skin damage.  It is also a good source of vitamin C which helps regulate the production of sebum- leaving your skin with less shine and more glow.  Consuming pomegranates regularly help with digestive problems and promote healthy circulation of the blood which in turn leaves your skin happy and healthy.

Fill blender with…

  • 8 oz. coconut water
  • ½ pomegranate (seeds)
  • ½ gala apple
  • ½ small avocado
  • 1 tsp chia seeds
  • 1 tsp hemp seeds
  • 3-4 ice cubes

Blend ingredients until smooth & enjoy

Maca_Image

Choco-Maca-licious Smoothie

Beauty Ingredient: Maca

Maca is a lovely root vegetable from Peru which has been used by the Incas as a superfood for 1000’s of years.  It is loaded with amino acids, fatty acids and minerals like calcium, magnesium and iron- all beautifying nutrients.  It works its magic on balancing and stabilizing hormone levels which keeps breakouts in check and your skin clear and glowing.  In addition to the beauty benefits, maca is known for boosting energy, balance and your libido!  Maca has a light, nutty flavor that tastes amazing mixed in smoothies with most fruits like banana, avocado or cacao which is what I did today.

Fill blender with…

  • 8 oz. unsweetened vanilla hemp milk (almond milk works too!)
  • 1 tsp organic raw maca powder
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1 tsp organic raw cacao powder
  • 2 tbs unsweetened coconut flakes
  • a dash of stevia or raw honey if you want more sweetness

Blend ingredients until smooth & enjoy

Avocado Love Smoothie

Beauty Ingredient: Avocado

Healthy skin needs healthy fats!  Some may be avoiding avocados because they are high in fat, but it is officially time to ditch your fear of fat.  Avocados are filled with the GOOD polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats which help control the skin’s moisture level.  They also filled with potassium, vitamins B, E and K- all beauty powered nutrients.  If you want your skin to glow, look radiant and smooth aim to eat 1 small avocado every day.  Adding ¼ to ½ of an avocado to smoothies will make it creamy and delicious.  Whether I’m going green or fruity with my concoctions, avocados blend beautifully with everything.

Fill blender with…

  • 8 oz. coconut water or filtered water
  • 3-4 handfuls organic spinach (or any leafy green)

Blend to break the greens down, then add

  • ¼ to ½ avocado (depending on size)
  • 1 organic pear (chopped & cored)
  • 2 tbs unsweetened coconut flakes

Blend remaining ingredients until smooth & enjoy

Cinnamon_Image

‘Tis the Cinnamon Smoothie

Beauty Ingredient: Cinnamon

The warm spicy scent of cinnamon pairs perfectly with the holidays.  It also happens to be a beautiful and healthy addition to smoothies!   Chinese medicine and Ayurveda have long valued cinnamon as a super spice used to treat things like colds, cramps and indigestion and it is also thought to improve energy, vitality and circulation.  Cinnamon stabilizes blood sugar levels (which we all need around the treat-filled holiday season!) which keeps hormones balanced and skin glowing.  Its anti-fungal properties ward off candida which is a yeast overgrowth that can cause breakouts.  Begin your morning with this creamy spiced smoothie over the holiday season to keep everything merry and bright!

Fill blender with…

  • 8 oz. unsweetened almond milk
  • 2-3 handfuls spinach
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 small frozen banana
  • ½ apple
  • 1 tsp almond butter
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp chia seeds

Blend ingredients until smooth & enjoy

Sweet Potato Supreme Smoothie

Orange is the new black this holiday season!  In one sweet potato you will find more than 200% of the recommended daily value of vitamin A.  You know this one is important for beauty by now.  Promoting the growth of new skin cells and increasing the rate at which this happens leaves you with a glowing complexion.  You’ll also get 3 grams of skin-loving fiber which keeps your digestive tract happy, healthy and functioning properly during the season of eating.

Fill blender with…

  • 8 oz. unsweetened almond milk
  • ½ c cooked sweet potato-flesh only & cooled (canned is ok if you don’t have time to prepare fresh)

  • 1 tsp raw cacao nibs
  • 1 tsp chia seeds

Parsley-Tea_Image

Perfect Start Parsley Smoothie

Beauty Ingredient: Parsley

Parsley’s beauty goes beyond a pretty garnish on a plate.  It packs a mighty nutrition punch loaded with vitamins A, C, K along with folate and iron which all benefit healthy skin.  Combining parsley power with a detox tea provides an important amount of support to the overworked liver, especially after the holidays, to get it functioning properly again.  A happy liver can process nasty toxins more efficiently which leads to clear and younger-looking skin.  It’s the time of renewal and cleansing, and all the ingredients in this smoothie provide the perfect fresh start.  The spice of ginger adds a lovely bite along with skin benefits of antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties.  Lemons provide vitamin C that boosts the immune system and helps skin with collagen formation.  When the inside is clean and happy, the skin will glow with healthy joy.

Fill blender with…

  • 8 oz. chilled Detox Tea (like Traditional Medicinals EveryDay Detox)
  • Handful organic parsley
  • 2-3 organic kale leaves
  • 1 organic carrot (chopped)
  • juice from ½ lemon
  • 1/3 c. frozen pineapple
  • 1” piece peeled ginger
  • ¼ avocado
  • Optional: stevia or raw honey to taste

Blend ingredients until smooth & enjoy
