Healthy Smoothie Recipes: Why Our Bodies LOVE Them

What we do first thing in the morning will positively or negatively affect our energy, complexion and digestion for the entire day.

Our bodies go through a clean-up mode while we sleep.  Sometimes when we eat late at night, our system needs to finish the digestion process which takes about 4 hours, before it can get busy cleaning and detoxing.

A complete cleanse takes about 8 hours.  This is why it’s important to allow 12 hours between eating dinner and breakfast.  If you interrupt the cleaning process with a meal that has to be digested, it doesn’t finish and those toxins are left inside to cause trouble…like breakouts and dull skin.

By using healthy smoothie recipes, especially what I like to call ‘Green Beauty Smoothies’, this morning meal will almost double energy for the day!  That’s definitely more than a cup of coffee can do.

Healthy Smoothie Recipes: How They Help

Because the body may still be cleaning and detoxing in the morning, we don’t want it to have to refocus that energy on digestion.

The ‘Green Beauty Smoothie’ blasts us with vitamins, minerals and nutrients that are already pre-digested by the act of blending.  Plus the vegetables and fruits in my healthy smoothie recipes are full of fiber that will act as little brooms to sweep away the toxins that have been released overnight that need to be properly eliminated.

The fiber will also keep us full until lunch.  Expect a lot more energy since the body doesn’t have to steal the energy to break down a heavy or large meal.  What a great bonus to clearer skin!

Healthy Smoothie Recipes: Additional Health & Beauty Benefits

Green smoothies also balance pH levels and blood sugar.  Compared to green juices, smoothies keep all the toxic-sweeping fiber from the fruit and vegetables for the best morning clean-up routine.  In addition to keeping us satisfied longer, incorporating healthy smoothie recipes helps with those sneaky little cravings.

A daily green smoothie will also encourage natural ideal weight, pack in veggie and fruit daily recommendations and amp up vitamins, minerals and nutrients.

Worried about missing out on protein in the morning?  Well no need!  One of the number one sources of protein comes from leafy greens.  If a little more is desired, protein powders (I like hemp), goji berries, cacao or bee pollen can be added.

Healthy Smoothie Recipes: How to Properly Consume a Smoothie

It is best to drink your smoothie alone and wait about 30 minutes before eating.  This way you’re taking full advantage of all the fabulous nutrients and it can “sweep up” your morning toxins.

I know we’re all busy!  When your ingredients are prepared and ready to go in the fridge, it will take 2 minutes or less to make breakfast.  Watch my How-To Video to see how easy it really is!

I like to buy and prep enough ingredients for the week and get them ready Sunday night.  This way I can aim for 4-5 smoothies a week.  But again, the more the better- we can’t overdose on green smoothies!  Try one for dinner if it’s a bit too late for a full meal.

Healthy Smoothie Recipes: Original Green Beauty Smoothie

  • 1 c. coconut water or filtered water
  • 5-6 handfuls of spinach or kale or romaine…blend then add
  • several pieces of frozen pineapple or apples or pears or banana
  • ½ avocado (this keeps the smoothie from separating & makes it creamy)
  • fresh ginger (optional)
  • stevia (optional)
  • scoop of Super Greens powder in fruit flavor for an added green and sweet bonus (optional)…blend again and serve!

Healthy Smoothie Recipes: Pretty Pear Smoothie

  • 8 oz. unsweetened vanilla hemp milk
  • 4-5 leaves curly kale (stems removed)…blend then add
  • ½ Asian pear
  • ½ frozen banana
  • ½” piece grated fresh ginger
  • ¼ tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp chia seeds
  • 1 tsp ground flax meal…blend again and serve!

Healthy Smoothie Recipes: Berry Medley Smoothie

  • 8 oz. almond milk
  • 1 c. organic spinach…blend then add
  • ¾ c. frozen berries
  • ¼ avocado
  • 1 tsp unsweetened coconut flakes
  • 1 tsp ground flax meal
  • 1 tsp chia seeds…blend again and serve!

Healthy Smoothie Recipes: Renew You Smoothie

  • 8 oz. chilled Detox Tea (like Traditional Medicine’s EveryDay Detox)
  • Handful organic parsley
  • 2-3 organic kale leaves…blend then add
  • 1 organic carrot (chopped)
  • juice from ½ lemon
  • 1/3 c. frozen pineapple
  • 1” piece peeled ginger
  • ¼ avocado
  • Optional: stevia or raw honey to taste…blend again and serve!
